Horseback Riding Adventure Travel

Horseback riding is a popular activity in the tourist island of Aruba and is also considered as one of the best ways to explore the island which has a rugged terrain unfit for normal automobiles other than 4×4 terrain vehicles.

There are various horse riding ranches around the island which offer horseback tours to visiting tourists and most of them are very popular with the locals and foreigners alike. One such ranch is the Rancho Notorious Horse Ranch which is located at Boroncana Noord. Also naming itself the Home of Happy Horses, Rancho Notorious is one of the finest ranches in the island when it comes to fun filled exciting rides through the wilderness on some really well bred horses.

Ranch Particulars: The Rancho Notorious operates both group and private tours and the rates for both vary. Accordingly, if you plan for a group ride, the horses are tame and you need to pay an entrance fee of 45 – 120 dollars per person. Alternatively, if you choose to go on a private tour of the island, you get to choose your own horse and need to pay somewhere around 120 – 200 dollars.

The lengths of the tours vary and you don’t need to travel to the ranch after booking a ride. You will be picked up and dropped at your respective hotels before and after the tour. Most of the time, the pickup hours are 8 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.

Need to Know Facts: One reason you need to pick Rancho Notorious over the other ranches is due to the amazing variety of routes handled by the ranch and the impeccable service. Most of the ranch’s tours traverse through the less travelled roads of Aruba it can get pretty hot in the afternoon.

Do bring along your sun hats, goggles and of course lots of sun tan lotion. It is recommended that you wear long trousers as you will move through dense vegetation at times which may harm your legs if they are not covered.

The Horses of rancho Notorious: Just as the name indicates, one can find that the horses in Rancho Notorious are quite happy with their home and are more than willing to take guests on tours around the island. All the horses are fed regularly, well maintained and personally trained so as to not frighten the guests in any way.

The horses found in the ranch may not resemble your normal American or European horses. These horses are more Arabic in origin (they are comparatively smaller) and among the many breeds available in the ranch, it is possible to spot Paso Finos, Torchas, Trottons, South American Quarters and the Western and English Tacks. Tours Undertaken: The tours arranged by the ranch come complete with well educated multilingual tour guides and refreshments. Riding helmets are also provided by the ranch itself. The close proximity of the ranch to numerous standard hotels makes it easier for pick up and drop facilities.

At the Rancho Notorious, you can choose from a list of four itineraries which are group tours and alternatively a simpler private tour. The first itinerary takes you on a one hour ride to the hidden lagoon in Aruba which is the abode of several parakeets, iguanas, and several other animals. The tour starts at either 10 in the morning or 4 in the evening and free transportation is provided.

The second itinerary includes a 2 hours ride to the Malmok beach on Aruba’s striking coastline where the horses walk through the water at a steady pace. This particular tour starts off from the ranch at either 8 in the morning or 2 in the afternoon. Transfers to and from the hotel are arranged for free by the ranch itself.

The third itinerary takes you through most of the island’s landmarks which include the Cunucu region, the Tierra del Sol golf course, the sand dunes and the North Eastern coastline of Aruba where you can wade through the waters of the alluring sea. The ranch operates two timings for this tour at 8 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.

The last itinerary does not allow small kids and need riders to be experienced as the terrain is steep. The trip starts off from the ranch and takes guests through the Arikok National Park down to the Natural Pool by the coast. On the way, you can enjoy spectacular views of the sand dunes and the rocky coastline.

At the Natural Pool, guests can relax for 20 minutes and can take a dip in the pool if they choose to do so. If you decide to opt for this tour, bring along your snorkeling gear as the pool houses colorful corals and fishes that are wonderful to explore. Another requirement for this tour is that the rider should not weigh more than 200 pounds which is deemed necessary for the horse as well as the rider.

Apart from these tours, if you choose a privatized tour for your family and friends, here’s a look at what you stand to benefit from the tour. You get to choose your horse and can choose your own itinerary depending on your expertise.

Apart from your friends and family accompanying you on the tour which makes it a pleasant experience, you will be provided with a personal tour guide who is able to answer all your questions with ease and showers personal attention on your group.
