Baggage of history

From ancient times countries on the Mediterranean coast made considerable material progress because of their abundance of natural resources, fertile land and intellectual superiority. They built gorgeous palaces, castles and forts. Their prosperity attracted invaders in the past. Now they attract travelers bitten by wanderlust.

Albania is one such Mediterranean country, richly endowed with natural beauty and man-made archaeological relics. Several centuries of alien domination, ethnic conflicts and even the ruthless communist dictator Enver Hoxha couldn’t demolish the country’s attractions to discerning travelers. In fact 500 years of Ottoman rule, besides turning the country predominantly Islamic, enriched Albania’s architectural tradition.

Tourism potential

Albania’s tourism potential was grossly unexploited for a long time. Hoxha believed in isolating the country. This once-isolated country has now opened up to the outside world and is destined to become another jewel amongst the Mediterranean region’s favorite tourist destinations.

International travelers have now noticed Albania’s unique fusion of different civilizations and cultures, its treasure-trove of archaeological remains, picturesque mountainous terrain and sandy white beaches along the Adriatic Sea. Albania is truly a tourist’s paradise.

Heritage tourism

Albania is like an open museum. Sandwiched between two major civilizations of the world – the Greek and the Roman – this country has acquired a precious treasure of cultural heritage that is reflected in its archaeological sites, castles and forts, Christian cathedrals and Islamic mosques.

Off the beaten track

For exploring the countryside start from the south of the country. Visit the ruins of the ancient city of Butrint on the Greek border. The surrounding diverse landscapes of hills, marshlands and lagoons look stunningly beautiful.

Tirana, the capital

It is a charming city with distinctive character. It was founded in early 17th century during the Ottoman rule. Many of the old buildings with elegant Turkish architectural style still exist. Its drab facades of its buildings built during the long Communist rule of nearly half a century have now been painted in bright colors to make them look cheerful. The city has many good hotels and a vibrant nightlife.

Albanian cuisine

Albanian cuisine is a satisfying fusion of culinary traditions left behind by its occupying forces from Greece, Italy and Ottoman Turkey. Olive oil and vinegar are generously used for preparing vegetables, meat and seafood in coastal areas. Noticias del cadiz

Nightlife

There is a wide range of bars, cafes, restaurants and clubs all over Albania. Tirana and tourist resorts have most popular clubs. Albanians are sociable people and love to drink and party. They believe in working hard during the day and party harder after the sun goes down. You will have a good time wherever you go in the evening.

Hotels

You will find many hotels – from modest hotels to luxurious ones. Most hotels offer special deals. Go through websites and select one that you think you would like.

A jewel in the Mediterranean

From the ski resorts of the mountains to the archaeological ruins of ancient towns, Albania has something to tempt every traveler whether a backpacker or someone who enjoys traveling in style. From the sandy white long beaches to rugged mountain trails, you will find what you want wherever you go.
