Karen; A Snapshot:

Kenya is a nation that is as colorful and beaming with life as any other African country. Karen is a sub urban town in the famous district of Nairobi. The name of this neighborhood in Nairobi is full of complexities and assumptions. It is alleged that the name of the neighborhood was kept after Karen Blixen herself who owned a farmhouse in the location where the neighborhood is currently placed. A quick sneak peek into her life tells that Karen lived in the district of Nairobi and later wrote the famous book the memoirs of Africa summarizing her stay and life in Kenya and other African countries.

Of the many things that are conflicting and interesting, the fact that Karen Blixen herself admitted in a write-up that the place was named after her is of special importance. However, it is also true that her African friends called Karen Tanne not Karen. It was a coffee farm that Karen owned along with her extended family, most of who were in Denmark. It was Remy Martin, a developer who bought the farm and renovated it to accommodate the ever-increasing population of Nairobi. Though the farm was named Karen, the inspiration was some different Karen. Whether Karen Blixen or some other Karen the fact, which remains unquestioned, is that it is today one of the best-kept and beautiful places in Nairobi. It is a major tourist attraction and has many good residential properties. Vinos de Granada

A Quick Review Of The Good Hotels:

Staying in Karen is an experience, which many world travellers’ look forward to. There are many boutique properties in the neighborhood, which provide excellent services and do everything to make your stay pleasurable. The House of Waine is one of the best-kept secrets. It has eleven rooms in all and there is a unique system of nomenclature of the rooms. These are named according to the décor and style and all rooms have different names. It is just 40 minutes away from the Nairobi airport. There is a pool and restaurant too. Overall it is a very good hotel.

Macushale guesthouse is another favorite among the tourists. It is a small property with just six rooms. However, do not get confused seeing the size. It has some of the best services, which no other guesthouse provides. You are sure not to miss your cozy bed or home cooked food in this guesthouse. It has a very personal feel to it. It is very close to the airport and other tourist places like the Karen Blixen Museum etc. Size is no bar for this beautiful Afro style property. Karen Blixen Cottages and Restaurant is another option, which is worth a mention. It is a 34 room hotel and there are 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom suites in the cottages. The décor is simply awesome with high-end ceilings and mahogany beds. The coffee plantations just near the cottages are also a big turn on.

It is thus, a very good value for money and will definitely satisfy even the most demanding guest. These were three of the best residential hotels in Karen but the list is long. One thing is for sure that no matter where you stay, the people of Karen would make you come back over and over again.
