How to Childproof Your Home

Children can be very accident prone and if you do have a child in the house even a toddler you need to take proper care about things around the house. Children can do the most unexpected things. Never think that your child will not do something dangerous. They love to explore and do not understand what is dangerous for them. Prevention is better than cure; especially in the case of children.

Once your child begins to crawl you can be rest assured that he is also going to start grasping for things and pulling them down. Make sure that you never leave plastic bags and rubber bands around the house. Any strings and ribbons must be cleared and put away as kids can easily entangle themselves into it.

When the child starts to stand and walk a very common thing that kids do is accidentally lock themselves in to the bathroom or bedroom. Make sure that the handles are high and the locks are high up as well. Always see that you have a spare set of keys of all rooms of your house and they are easily assessable. Be very careful when buying toys for a child. They easily swallow them even if you are supervising them. When you are taking your child out in the car make sure the child is well strapped up in the car seat and never should the child sit in the front seat.

Children get burnt very easily so once the crawling has starter keep all the electric points covered or see that they are at a higher level. Get rid of your dining table cover as one pull of it could cause your hot tea and coffee to fall straight on to the child. In case of burns you can pour running water on the affected area or simply apply some toothpaste as it soothes the skin. Do not allow the child to play near large windows and do not keep step stools near windows as well. When sending them on play dates take the time to ask about the safety measures in the friend’s house and if you are not happy with it do not send him.
