Flu symptoms in children are more severe than that of the symptoms of childhood cold. Symptoms develop rapidly and are typically worse during the first 2-3 days of its onset.

One common symptom of flu in children is a high-grade fever, which may go up to 104 degrees F (40 C). Fever is often accompanied with chills, extreme tiredness, muscle aches, body aches, headaches, dry cough, sore throat, and feeling of sickness.

In younger children, symptoms may look as if he is having other respiratory tract infections like that of bronchitis, croup, or pneumonia. In younger children, flu symptoms may also include vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, irritability and high fever. Flu in infants below 6 months of age may include poor feeding, lethargy, and poor circulation but infants are less likely to catch flu.

As a parent, you may find difficulty in deciding
about when to take your child with flu to a doctor. Flu is not that serious in the first place and if your child is healthy otherwise then you need not worry if he has developed flu symptoms. The only thing to do is to take proper care of your child.

If your child is below 5 years or in case he suffers from any chronic illnesses like asthma, you must consult your doctor as soon as you observe that your child is not well. For children above 5 years, you should consult a doctor if your child’s fever continues for more than 3 days, has difficulty in breathing, or experiences persistent vomiting.
