The sixties were the style of the hippies and the trend continues to this day. Hippies have evolved over the years to form their own cultures, traditions and practises, and still thrive in several parts of the world.

Essentially people who celebrate freedom, peace and love, hippies are a wild lot and love everything about themselves. So if you love to travel like a hippie or want to have your share of the fun, here is a list of the top hippie destinations around the world.

Spain: Ibiza in Spain is no longer an idyllic place and is frequented by hordes of tourists every year. The island is one of the hippiest places to hang out at and was earlier, a central location for hippies who used to travel to the island from all over Europe.

Also a World Heritage Site, Ibiza has numerous walking trails towards the north end of the island and is pretty expensive to visit. However, the island needs to be visited for its splendid architectural wonders and the raves.

Canada: Vancouver in Canada is not just any other normal American city and happens to be the birthplace of the Greenpeace revolution. The city still resembles the 70’s era in several places and one particular area worth mentioning is the Kitsilano district.

This groovy district in the city is where you can still find hippies wearing ponchos and sporting long hair wandering about at large. The city itself is filled with lots of little charms and tourist attractions which enjoy their share of visitors every year.

Guatemala: Central America is home to one of the hippiest little towns in America. Located on the banks of the Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, Panajachel (also called as Pana) is a thriving community with several of its residents being migrants or refugees. Todo para pelo rizado

Although the town has developed over the years, it still retains its old age charm and the lake adds to the scenic beauty of the region.

Denmark: Orignally a Danish naval base, the city of Christiania was transformed into a close knit community by some hippies who gave equal importance to alternate lifestyles.

The city is filled with extremely creative and sometimes eccentric homes and the main population of the city is made up by artisans and environmentalists. While here, a visit to the Pusher Street needs to be in your list of must visit places.

India: Also considered as the original getaway for hippies, this coastal wonder in southwestern India was discovered in the 60’s. Goa is still a hotspot for hippies and it is possible to spot several hippies near the beach and the coastal towns. The Anjuna and Vagatore beaches are popular hangouts for hippies and host several night raves.

Morocco: True to it’s unique name, the city of Chefchaouen in Morocco is a located at the base of the Rif Mountains. The city for the most part is inhabited by artisans; and the blue colored city is considered as one of the hippiest places to visit in all of Morocco.

A visit to the city is not complete without opting for a session of ‘Kif on the Rif’, although you might want to stay clear off it if you don’t fancy mind altering substances.

Brazil: Located in the Bahia State in Brazil is the small seaside village of Arembepe which was once a favorite with several celebrity rockstars and cultural icons.

The village has seen the likes of Gilberto Gil, and Janis Joplin, Caetano Veloso and Mick Jagger who vacationed here frequently. Arembepe is also located close to the first ever hippie town in Brazil, Caratingui.
