How to Care for Hemorrhoids Postpartum

Haemorrhoids are a common problem that many women suffer from postpartum. It is normally observed in women who give birth vaginally and is mainly caused by all the pushing during childbirth. But the problem can be taken care of by following an appropriate diet, maintaining good hygiene and doing regular exercises.
Don’t let yourself become constipated. Regular intake of fiber rich diet will help you avoid constipation. Eat fresh green vegetables and fruits as they contain high amounts of fiber. Water is also great for digestion. Drinking 10 glasses of water daily will keep your digestive system working through the day. 20 minutes of brisk walking daily will also help prevent constipation.

If you still suffer from constipation check with your doctor for natural laxatives or stool softeners. Haemorrhoid pads are available for use over regular sanitary pads. The haemorrhoid pads have been soaked in witch hazel solution which greatly helps relieve skin tissue swelling. Place five of these on the sanitary pad and use.

Put them in such a way that they come in direct contact with the rectum. Change them with every change of sanitary pad. You can even use haemorrhoid pads for cleaning instead of toilet paper since toilet paper can be harsh on haemorrhoid skin. Diets, plans and health

Clean the rectum area regularly especially after each bowel movement. Buy a peri-bottle and use to clean the rectum. Many hospitals provide a peri-bottle after delivery and you can also buy your own from any pharmacist. The bottle is easy to use. A simple squeeze will squirt lukewarm water over the anus. Dry the area using a cotton towel or soft tissues.

Air drying is also an alternative to dry the rectum area. To maintain cleanliness place a towel beneath and squat. The towel will absorb the vaginal discharges if any.

Dry the rectum keeping the dryer at low heat and keeping the dryer at least 12 inches away from the body. You can even air dry by lying flat on your back and bending knees. Place the towel beneath you. Air drying will require no contact with the body and the warm heat will be comforting.

Make use of sitz bath that is provided in many hospitals for women who give birth vaginally. You can even try sitting in a warm bath thrice a day. This will not only soothe the haemorrhoids but also keep them clean and infection free.
