The country may not have a Kilimanjaro or a Victoria Falls, but the country has serene beaches, wildlife, mountains and most importantly, one of the most significant cultural displays of the continent.

So, if you want to explore Africa by going beyond the trodden track of the tourists, Ghana can be your ideal tourist destination. However, before scheduling your trip, check out the most interesting places in Ghana.

Accra

Besides being the capital of Ghana, Accra is also the largest city of the country. Though the international tourists may find it a little congested and chaotic, Accra has some interesting sites to offer.

 

First of all, there is the National Museum where you can witness the history of Ghana preserved well through a large collection of relics.

The University of Ghana near Acra is another interesting site where you can see the Japanese architect in the African setting. Apart from these, Accra has quite a few shopping spots and markets where you can witness the typical Ghanian culture.

Busua and Dixcove

Reaching Busua from Accra takes a few hours’ drive. Both Busua and Dixcove are small fishing villages that have long and beautiful beaches. There are tourist cottages in Busua which offer more amenities to tourists.

The Metal Cross Fort is a picturesque site near Dixcove. Apart from that, there are some ruins of other forts that add to the charm of the place.

Cape Coast

Cape Coast was the colonial capital for the British. The most significant and heinous testimony to that history of the city is the Cape Coast Slave Castle which is presently a UNESCO world Heritage Site.

A guided tour is conducted inside the castle which is now turned into a museum. Justifying its name, the city also has a beautiful coastline.

Kakum National Park

The Kakum National Park will let you inside the dense tropical rainforest of Ghana. The forest preserves 300 different species of birds along with numerous species of butterflies.

Though, it is not a great site for watching wildlife, the forest offers breathtaking canopy walk. You will surely feel thrilled to stay at the top of the trees. Also, there is a beautiful museum at the national park.

Mole National Park

If you are more interested in wildlife, you can enter the Mole National Park, which is the largest national park of Ghana. Here you can see baboons, antelopes, water bucks, and different types of mammals. In fact, the visitors are not allowed to walk alone without the armed rangers for security.

You can avail bus to or from Tamale – a popular place among the tourists. Actually, Tamale is the ideal stop over for them between Mole National park and Burkina Faso, one of the most amazing paces in Africa.

Kumasi

Kumasi must be there in the list of interesting places in Ghana. Once the capital of the Ashanti kingdom, Kumasi today is a metropolis of Ghana. However, the city is far more relaxing than Accra and what’s more; you will find a better blend of African culture here.
