Mesmerising Kanyakumari
India’s saga of her natural pulchritude finds a poetic finish in Kanyakumari that embellishes the nadir of the country at the southern most tip of its peninsula with beautiful sea beaches and a magical tranquil aura exhibiting the holy confluence of the famous troika—the bay of Bengal ,the Arabian sea and the Indian Ocean.
There is a mythological tale regarding this beautiful beach destination. This included its christening after Kanyakumari Amman who is believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Parvathi, who did penance on one of the rocks to win lord Shiva.
She vowed to stay virgin till he came to deliver her from her penance. The Kumari Amman temple happens to be erected on the very place where the Goddess had repented .The temple has an incredible serene air to itself that can erase all stress and tension.
From Kanyakumari, you can take a ferry ride to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, which would be an amazing experience for sure. This place was built to commemorate the rock on which Swami Vivekananda had once meditated and evolved his philosophy. Very close to this place happens to be the Sripada Parai where the footprints of Goddess Kanyakumari are believed to be imprinted.
The Gandhi memorial, the Thiruvalluvar Statue, Kamarajar Manimandapam and the Government Museum are some other places worth a visit on your tour to Kanyakumari.
You may even pay a visit to some tourist attractions situated close to Kanyakumari like the small village called Suchindrum (almost 12 kms away), the 1000 year old Guganathaswamy Temple and the Muttom beach (about 32 kms from Kanyakumari), which is famous for its attractive landscape and high rocks at the beach-side that dip into the sea. In brief, if you are looking for a joyous sojourn to bid adieu to the reality of your otherwise mundane life, Kanyakumari is the ideal place to visit where life is one long vacation. You would certainly love to spend time in the lap of this natural splendor!
