A baby’s skin is very different from an adult’s skin. A baby will have a very sensitive, thin and fragile skin .Due to this fragile nature, an increased concentration of substances can be absorbed through the skin, thereby increasing the risk of skin problems. Also since babies sweat less, the process of maintaining the inner body temperature becomes much harder. Less melanin is also produced, making the skin more susceptible to sun burns.

Extra care is necessary while dealing with your baby’s skin.

Your baby needs to be given a bath daily. Massaging your baby before giving him a bath is found to be very beneficial to maintain the softness of the skin and also to increase the blood circulation. Gentle and fast absorbing oils can be used for massaging.

The baby soap or shampoo which is used shouldn’t strip the skin out of natural oils and shouldn’t be harsh on the baby’s skin. Clean all parts of the baby’s body, especially the folds on the neck and the groin because these places are more vulnerable to dirt accumulation. At the end of the bath, apply baby cream or soothing and hydrating body milk, to prevent dry skin. You can use baby powders too. Blog de Nutricion, Entrenamiento y Fitness

Take care to apply these products only after drying the baby completely. The pH of the baby products used is an important factor to be considered. Use of products which have a different pH level than the baby’s skin can increase the risk of skin irritation, itchiness and scratching.

The baby clothes should be made of soft materials and should suit the sensitive skin of the baby. Do not make your baby wear diapers all the time .Alternate diapers with cloth nappies. Prolonged use of diaper can cause diaper rashes. If your baby has diaper rashes, then try to keep that area as dry as possible. Change the diapers frequently and use medications containing zinc oxide.

While going outdoors, you can use an umbrella or put a hat on your baby or to protect him from the harsh rays of the sun. Also use a sunscreen lotion formulated for the baby skin with an SPF of at least 50.

A baby’s skin is 5 times thinner than an adult’s skin. So for your baby to have a smooth and healthy skin, extra care is to be definitely taken.
