Tenerife – A true Heaven on Earth

The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is what you would want to call a complete holiday package. An island destination that has something for everyone, Tenerife is visited by millions of tourists every year.

You can fly into Tenerife via the Santa Cruz, La Laguna airport about 10 km to the North or the Reina Sofia airport down South. A car is the best way to move about the island and there are numerous car rentals to help you.

Alternatively, cruise through the island on a motorcycle. Bicycles and walks are also common ways to explore the island. On a funnier note, go for a camel ride around town and you will love it. Ferries are also available to take visitors to the neighboring canary islands of Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fueteventura.


Tenerife is known for its year round sunny climate and mild winters which is the reason for its popularity among sun worshippers. From volcanic mountains, desserts, forests, beautiful beaches, and an amazing array of wildlife and vegetation, Teneriffe is not going to let you down if you plan a trip here.

Most of the natural beaches in Tenerife have black sand owing to the volcanic nature of the island. However, a sprinkle of manmade resorts has cropped up over the years and artificial beaches have been filled with golden sand imported from Egypt.

One of the biggest tourism centers of the island, Arona is where you need to be in order to enjoy the beaches and the night life. Divided into four provinces, the entire region is filled with party goers and it tends to get pretty loud at night.

If you need to party till the wee hours of the morning, move to Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos, famous for their beaches, bars and restaurants. Costa del Silencio and Galletas are for the quieter crowds and families, so is the region of Puerto De La Cruz.

The capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is famous for its docks filled with freighters and ferries. The South Western region of Costa de Adeje is also a must visit for the beach lovers.

If adventure is what you seek then adventure is what you get. There is no end to the number of activities you can partake in, both inland and in water. A special permit is required to hike to the top of Mount Teide which is the highest peak in Spain (12,200 feet). Tenerife has two water parks, Agua Sur (Aqua Land) and the Ocean Park in addition to The Theme Park Holiday World, the Camel Safari Park, and Sioux City – Cowboy Park. Children will love the dolphin show at Aqua Land. Visit the ancient land of Mundo Aborigen and the Palmitos sun tropical park and aquarium or go in for tours of the island on a hot air balloon.

Jungle and Park safaris are also arranged for visitors to have an insight on the natural wildlife and plant life in Tenerife. The world renowned Loro Parque, also called Parrot Park is a must visit for your family. The entire island is also dotted with museums and cultural centers and provides the aspiring archaeologist interesting views of Tenrife History.And while you are at it, don’t forget to take a look at the official black pyramids on the Southern end of the island in Guimar.

Water sports are not to be left behind and Tenerife boasts of some of the best water activities in Spain. Take part in the World Champion Windsurfing competition, snorkel through hidden coves or scuba dive in some of the most spectacular underwater caves in the world.

Paragliding is also available for those who wish to take in an aerial view of the island.

Fishing is an all year round sport in Tenerife and a highlight of the marine world, whale watching, draws hordes of visitors to the beaches. The beaches of Playas de las Americas, Los Gigantes and Los Cristianos are all favorite whale spotting areas.
