The Natural Bridge of Aruba
Situated in Aruba are the ruins of one of the greatest works of art by Mother Nature. Called the Natural Bridge, this geological wonder is located in Aruba’s Winward Coastal Line and was once deemed as one of the most popular tourist sites of Aruba and maybe the Caribbean. A fair number of tourists do visit the area even today to catch a glimpse of the fallen wonder.
Origin and Geology: No one knows when the bridge actually formed. Researchers feel that it might have taken years altogether for the bridge to slowly form shape as it weathered thunder storms and the choppy waves of the ocean.
The bridge was one huge coral stone that remarkably grew out of the water and stretched between two imposing rocky ledges. Made of limestone, the bridge originally rose to a height of 25 feet from the sea, was 50 feet wide and stretched for over 100 feet. The surface of the bridge was covered with fossil coral heads and even though there are many other similar bridges in other parts of the world, this bridge was the biggest and oldest of them all.
The Fall: The bridge reportedly collapsed in the middle of the night on the 5th of September 2005 thereby causing no harm to visiting tourists. Today, what remains are the ruins of the bridge that lie as huge barricades for the waves to crash on when they reach the shore.
Similar Bridges: Although the natural bridge might have seen its last days, there are several other similar bridges in Aruba itself let alone other parts of the world.
A newly formed natural bridge is located quite close to the original one and stretches over 72 feet. In addition to this, there are about 7 other bridges in the nearby vicinity and some of them are very hard to reach owing to slippery rocks and strong waves. Trámites de notarias un USA para hispanos
Frequent tours are arranged to the Aruba coastline and most of the sightseeing tours will include the natural bridge in their itinerary. Alternatively, you can choose to visit the site on your own. There are no specific times for viewing the bridge and there’s nothing like an admission fee.
The area is fairly remote and you may not be able to find hotel and restaurants to your liking. A few refreshment stands near the area provide immediate salvation from the blasting heat and tiring walk. Public toilets are present in small shops that sell trinkets and souvenirs.
