The stork’s impending arrival is enough to throw life completely out of gear in any home. It is very natural and common for both parents to feel confused, nervous and jittery.
A baby is a huge responsibility and he/she has demands and needs that have to be met in the best possible manner. There are no shortcuts when it comes to a newborn’s wellbeing, safety and health.
The best way to avoid any last minute panic is by preparing a few things in advance. This will give you enough time and opportunity to look for what is best for your baby, within your budget. Baby stuff can be quite expensive, that is why a lot of research is required to find the best deals possible.
Ideally, you should have a small hospital bag ready for baby and mommy by the 34th week of pregnancy. This will prevent you from being surprised at any early arrivals. Let us now see 5 essential things that any expecting parent should possess before the due date.
Top 5 Items Every Expecting Parent Needs
Baby Clothes
This is perhaps the most important item on your shopping list. The hospital may provide the first set of clothes for your baby, but after that you’re on your own. You must purchase at least 5 sets each of the following; booties, cotton caps, cotton mittens, undershirts, half body suits, sleep suits, stretchy tees, and bibs.
You can never have enough hankies and cloth diapers. Buy as many as 15-20 of them. You must wash everything with baby friendly detergent before use. This will ensure that the clothes become a little soft for the baby to wear. Also carry a supply of disposable diapers (select the “tiny” or “newborn” size).

Feeding supplies like bottles, infant formula, pacifiers and a sterilizer should also be taken to the hospital. Even if the mother plans to breastfeed, it is always good to carry these supplies in case of an emergency.
Mom’s Bag Relatos Cortos
There are certain items that are essential for the mother as well and should be carried to the hospital. 2-3 cotton night dresses, 4 cotton nursing bras, a few pairs of cotton panties, a large supply of sanitary napkins, antiseptic lotion (in case of stitches) and a few face cloths will be required. Carry your own bathing supplies like soap, shampoo, body wash, towels etc.
Bed linen
Immediately on birth, the baby will need to be swaddled in a receiving blanket. And it is better if you give it to the hospital staff in advance. Keep one extra as well. Small plastic sheets as well as a large bed-size mackintosh are also essential.
You can cut up old cotton bed sheets and use the pieces for the baby to lie on (if they get soiled or wet, just throw them away). Choose a good quality crib mattress for the baby bed. A warm and soft fleece blanket with two sets of removable covers is a good idea.
Furniture
A cot or crib should be bought before the baby arrives. This will give you time to assemble it and check for any defects. A highchair can be bought after the delivery as it will be used only when the baby is able to sit by himself/herself (when he/she attains 6 months of age).
Equipment
A pram or stroller is very important and should be bought from a reputed store or company. Make sure it adheres to requisite safety norms. A car seat should be bought and fitted before you leave for the hospital.
This is because most hospital administrations do not let you leave with the baby unless your car has a special seat for the baby. It should be fitted in the center of the backseat in a reverse-facing manner.
A baby swing or bouncer is also good for soothing a fussy baby. Finally, don’t forget to enjoy the most important day of your lives (your baby’s life as well) because it will never come back!
