Hotels In Berlin

If you are a stickler for art and creativity, you have got to visit this hotel! Located in Berlin, the Propeller Island City Lodge is more of a city museum than your standard hotel. For everything in the lodge from the rooms to the fixtures and the amenities have been designed in very unique styles that cannot be seen in any other hotel in the world.

Most of the general areas of the hotel and some of its rooms have featured in various photo sessions and videos. The hotel was conceived and designed by renowned German artist Lars Stroschen who describes his child as a living work of art. True to its name, the hotel attracts art lovers and philosophers from around the world in addition to a horde of tourists who frequent the hotel every year.

Location: The Propeller Island City Lodge can be easily reached by bus, taxis or the subway. Flights land at the Tegel Airport from where guests can find plenty of buses that take them to the hotel for a nominal charge. Taxis provide transportation too in addition to a subway transit which operates trains to the nearby stations of Bahnhof-Charlottenburg and Train Station Zoo.

The Schonefeld Airport also caters to international flights although it may take a little longer to reach the hotel (approx. 50 minutes).

Accommodation: No two rooms are the same at the Propeller Island City Lodge. Guests can treat themselves to over 27 uniquely designed and furbished rooms. Each room has a different theme with decors and special sound effects to match the subject.

For instance, the Castle Room is designed just like a medieval castle room and comes complete with the stone furnishings and the sounds that can be heard in a normal castle. If you fancy ghosts, you can opt for the crypt room that comes with coffin beds, skulls and skeletons in addition to really spooky sounds and side effects.

The most striking of all should be the Symbol Room, which is covered with black and white graphic symbols from the floor to the roof. Some of the or notable rooms include the Orange Room (fully painted in a deep shade of orange); the stark white Clouds Room with paintings and pictures of fluffy clouds adorning the walls and roof; the Flying Bed Room (a slanted room with the furniture fixed to the floor, which gives the flying effect to the bed); the 4 Beams Room (the bed is suspended high above the ground with the help of 4 gigantic beams); the Green Padded Room (painted in green and padded with soft leather cushions all over); the Mirror Room (completely fitted with all kinds of mirrors); the Therapy Room (comes with a private massage and steam machine); the Tempel Room (designed and decorated like a holy temple); and the Hol(l)y-Wood Room which is designed just like a Hollywood studio.

As mentioned before, the rooms come with special surround sound effects that can be activated by pressing a button inside the room. Some of the notable effects include waves crashing on the beach, sounds of the jungle, sound sculptures and spooky sounds of the graveyard.

It’s not only the rooms that defy imagination. The entire hotel is one massive art sculpture and the central lobby, passages and common bathrooms are all filled with metal lamps, all kinds of distorting mirrors and very creative fixtures (for example: wash basins made from beer barrels).

Some of the facilities in the hotel need to be shared. For instance, some of the rooms do not come with en suite bathrooms but just a wash basin. Guests staying in these rooms need to use the common bathrooms located adjacent to the rooms. The lodge offers complimentary bath robes for guests using these rest rooms. The lodge has put forward a request for the guests visiting the 4 storey building. Most of the rooms have been decorated with very sensitive materials like intense wall colors and plexiglass which tend to get damaged easily. Guests are requested to maintain utmost care while staying in the rooms and moving through the corridors.

It’s a dedication of a different kind to the world of art and if you are in Berlin for the holidays, stop by at the Propeller Island City Lodge for an unconventional experience.
