They say movies don’t happen in real life.On the contrary, the small town of Phoenixville in Pennsylvania comes to “reel life” every year with the Blobfest festival which is held to commemorate the 1958 classic hit  movie, The Blob.

For those who have little or no idea of what the movie was all about, here’s a small re cap. Apparently, the movie pictured the blob as a gelatnious substance from outer space that eats everything in its path. The movie goes on to reveal how a group of teenagers try to stop the blob from consuming an entire town. Filmed on a low budget, the film went on to become one of the best Sci-Fi movies of the decade and is a very popular hit even today.

The movie was filmed in Phoenixville and the residents of the town decided to make the event all the more memorable by annually conducting the Blob Fest, a festival that draws hordes of movie buffs and toursits to this sunny town every July.

The festival is celebrated over the weekend in the mid of July. In addition to screening the movie several times in the landmark Colonial Theater which featured as a back drop in the film, visitors can also enjoy several smaller interactive events and contests.

Some of the more popular events include the Scream Contest, a Cotume Parade Contest, a parade which features actors from the movie who played extras, visits by celebrity guests, exhibit of antique cars at the Colonial Theater and an auction of the film’s memorabilia.

The highlight of the festival however, is the reenactment of the theater scene as seen in the original movie. According to the film, the blob has its last feast at the Colonial Theater and the scene shows the movie goers rushing out of the hall at full speed. As seen in the movie, locals and tourists alike walk into the Colonial Theater to watch the film and at the particular point of the blob’s entry into the theater, rush out screaming. Its an incredible spectacle to watch though you need to stand at a safe distance lest you want to get caught in the stampede. Letras en Graffiti Gratis | Descubre Todos los Estilos

The festival aims to bring out newer concepts and events every year. The year 2009 had visitors having the privilege to dress up as their favorite horror character of the 1950’s. The promotor of the festival, Shane Stone also went forward to introduce insurance policies for those who might get injured or die in a blob attack. Apart from this, festival goers had an incredible time taking photos of themselves stuck inside a life like wooden replica of the original blob and enjoying the art works of the local blob enthusiasts.

Tourists visiting Phoenixville to take part in the Blob Fest can also take some time out to visit other local attractions in the area as well. These include the Mass Grave of Irishmen, the American Helicopter Museum, the Museum of Mourning Art and the site of the Sloppy Giant with Ill Fitting Clothes.

Also called as the wackiest festival on the earth, the Blob Fest is attended regualrly by locals and tourists alike and has sucessfully completed five years till 2009. So if you are in the near vicinity this July, make sure to stop by in Phoenixville to attend this truly unique festival.
